For this #FollowFriday, I wanted to highlight some of my favorite photographers on Pixelfed.

Don't worry if you're not on Pixelfed because Mastodon accounts can follow Pixelfed accounts!

For example, I'm @Alice on Mastodon, but I'm also @Alice@gram.social on Pixelfed and both accounts can cross-follow.

In no particular order:
@garryknight (black and white street photography, often capturing everyday life under gorgeous light)

@Vulpy (absolutely delightful minimal photos of everyday things)

@blankfrank@gram.social (the same @blankfrank@mstdn.social you know and love from Mastodon, but on Pixelfed, mostly showing Amsterdam through a minimal artistic lens)

@Laszlo (I'm admittedly afraid of nature, but Laszlo captures some of the clearest and most unique wildlife photos I've ever seen)

@bjh (minimal, gritty, gorgeous photos)

@sarble (different subjects, but lots of gorgeous photos of architecture around greater London, often featuring interesting natural lighting)

Last of all, we love a story that combines gaming and Microsoft’s Office suite. To wit, this little gem from @Gizmodo that our @CultureDesk shared about Michael Jarman, who last week won the Microsoft Excel World Championship, competing with 11 over finalists in a simulated game of World of Warcraft via spreadsheet. Congrats, Michael!

Why did political pundits go doolally over Biden’s pardon of his son, Hunter, yet remain more-or-less schtum about his successor’s disregard for transition law, promises to pardon Jan. 6 insurrectionists, many pardons of allies, friends and supporters, and all the rest of it? “If ever there was a time for the corporate press to reorder its priorities, it is now," writes Allison Hantschel for @damemagazine.

Dame Magazine - · Corporate Media Is Obeying in Advance - Dame MagazineWhen President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter Biden of tax evasion crimes for which no non-famous person would ever be prosecuted, every newsroom in America treated it like Christmas morning had come at Super Bowl halftime during Mardi Gras. Editors and producers at newspapers and television networks produced the kind of round-the-clock coverage more appropriate

“I Am Ready, Warden” is streaming now on Paramount+. @TexasObserver talked to director Smriti Mundhra about the documentary, which chronicles the days leading up to the execution of John Henry Ramirez, and which they say is a must-watch for people on any side of the death-penalty debate.

Unhoused people have some of the lowest turnout of all voters, yet there are often ballot measures that directly affect them. @bolts looks at a program in Los Angeles County that seeks to bring voting directly to service centers and shelters. The effort is working — almost 3,000 who might not otherwise have cast a ballot did so in the last general election.

In theory, every American is required to contribute to Medicare. In practice, @ProPublica says, billionaires including Steve Cohen, owner of the New York Mets, and hedge-fund manager Bill Ackman, are paying diddly-squat. Here’s how they do it.

Is it us, or do Friday the Thirteenths seem to come around more often these days? Fittingly, we have some scary stuff this #NewstodonFriday, including stories about Medicare, media obeying in advance, and AI movies that aren’t technically supposed to be horror — but they gave us a fright. All the newsrooms featured here are independent and have their own active fediverse accounts. Please follow them, click on the stories, boost them, subscribe, donate and otherwise support if you can.

It's Friday. I haven't done a Follow Friday in a LONG while it feels like.

So, let's do it.

@Kitty - Friendly neighborhood metalhead and founder of some great music hashtags.

@gnitro - Longtime online friend from my pre-Fedi days, feed largely comprised K-Pop, beer, light novels, and manga - all good stuff.

@skeletor - Some silly inspiration in your timeline from Skeletor. It's fun.

@Alice@beige.party and @Alice@gram.social - Same person, two accounts. One is for jokes, the other for some great, artistic photos. Follow 'em both!

How about a little #FollowFriday?
